Simple, fresh, and tasty
The word “cheap” has been very poorly viewed in the world of food. Its association is either junk food or not so fresh food. Let us shed some light and give a different perspective to do it justice.
At La Petite Mangue catering, we do believe we can offer cheap catering in Montreal and this is how we do it freshly. Any kind of cooking starts with a good ingredient. A good ingredient does not need to be exotic, or rare, or expensive. It just needs to be fresh and can be as simple as a full chicken thigh; or a red and firm sweet bell pepper; or any other fresh vegetable lying around in the fridge. The rule is to have no rule to what you can use. Marinate the chicken with some minced garlic, a little honey, a touch of pepper, and a teaspoon of soya sauce or fish sauce or a pinch of salt. The marinade will turn the skin golden caramelized color when the chicken is baked 30 minutes at 375F. Let us drizzle a little soya and canola or olive oil over sliced vegetable. Add some slices of ginger and bake till tender (approximately 20 minutes at 415F). We would serve this with a side of jasmine or sticky rice, but you can serve with any starch of your choice. This is just an example of what we mean by cheap food. It’s simple. It’s fresh. Most importantly, it’s delicious.
Cheap ingredients deserve just as much respect as more expensive or exotic ones. After all, food is food. It’s always what we do with it and the love that goes into cooking (it’s cheesy but it’s true) that will determine the outcome.
Great choices!
